Butcher Block & cutting board - Care instructions
Our butcher blocks and cutting boards are NOT dishwasher safe
Clean immediately after use, especially if any raw food was cut or placed on the board.
With a clean wet sponge and mild soap, wipe the top thoroughly until all debris is removed.
Wash out the cloth or sponge in clean warm water until there is no remaining soap.
Thoroughly wipe all surfaces of the board with a clean dry towel.
DO NOT use a razor-edged cleaver or serrated knife. These may chip or splinter the wood.
Every few weeks, generously apply food-grade mineral oil (sample included) with a paper towel
or cloth. This is an absolute must!
A minimum of once a month, apply an even coat of mineral oil to all surfaces of your butcher
block/cutting board using a clean cloth, disposable towel. The more often it is cleaned, the
more often it should be oiled. A dry appearance is a sign it is time to oil your wood surface.
Make sure the cutting board surface is free from any food debris, dirt, oil, or grease before
applying the mineral oil.
Allow the mineral oil to fully penetrate through the wood overnight. Then, wipe off any excess
oil. Apply additional oil to any visible dry spots but don’t over oil.
Mineral oil is a food-grade oil that easily absorbs and penetrates deeply into the grain of the
wood to help protect and moisturize the wood fibers.
Be sure to distribute your cutting over the entire work surface so that it will wear evenly. If your
butcher block/cutting board is reversible, it should be turned over periodically to allow even
usage on both work surfaces.
